Bike Holiday at the Puradies
In the summer months and on mild autumn days, also known as "Indian summer" or "Altweibersommer", active holidaymakers and sports enthusiasts are increasingly enjoying biking. Hardly any other sport has developed so rapidly in recent years and tapped into so much potential. Whereas cycling in the mountains used to be reserved for the "young" and the "sporty", thanks to the invention of the e-bike, young and old, amateur and professional cyclists, occasional riders and extreme athletes now all meet on the alpine pastures.
So a bike holiday is something for everyone; the only question is: what kind of cycling do you enjoy, what equipment do you need for it and where are the ideal routes for you? At the Puradies, you will find an answer to everything as well as the right bike equipment, so that nothing stands in the way of an active holiday in the Saalfelden Leogang bike region.
Active Holiday in the Saalfelden Leogang Bike Region
Let's start with the classic mountain biker. For them, Saalfelden Leogang offers a true paradise of cycle paths. A distinction is made between easy, moderate and difficult mountain bike tours. All those getting back into it or just at the start of their biking career, as well as leisure cyclists, can pedal along comfortably on easy routes of 6 to 39 kilometres.
The "Gunzi Trail", for example, is highly recommended. This is a short mountain bike tour (7.7 km) that takes about an hour, covering 220 metres of altitude. For mountain bikers with some experience, the "Spielbergalmen Tour", among others, is a good choice. For the total of 19.2 km, you need to allow about three hours (without breaks). On the ride, you climb 650 metres in altitude and can look forward to wonderful alpine landscapes and rustic places to stop for refreshments. Experienced bikers with sufficient practice and, above all, fitness might dare to take on the "Eiserne Hand". Over 40.7 km and 1,690 metres in altitude (approx. six hours), the route goes uphill and downhill, partly along very narrow paths. Wearing elbow and knee pads is therefore recommended for these trails. This tour definitely guarantees adventure, action and a real treat for the eyes.
Tips for Road Cyclists and Road Bikers
For road cycling enthusiasts, there are eight tours in the Saalfelden Leogang bike region on routes of 6 to 144 kilometres. These, too, vary in difficulty from easy to moderate to difficult. The Zeller See Round (60 km, 246 m elevation gain, two hours), for example, is ideal for a half-day tour with a low level of difficulty. Right on the lakeside promenade of the beautiful Zeller See, you have several options for a break with a view of the Kitzsteinhorn. The Pass Thurn Round is highly recommended for all road bikers. Over 114 km (1,148 m elevation gain, five hours) via the Grießenpass to Hochfilzen, Fieberbrunn, St. Johann, Kitzbühel and Jochberg, Pass Thurn, Mittersill, Zell am See and back into the Saalach valley via Saalfelden to Leogang, you circle the Kitzbühel Alps. Really difficult, but with a unique mountain panorama, is the "Kaisertour Großglockner". On the ride over the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, you cover approx. 130 km (3,658 m elevation gain, eight hours) from Leogang. You are rewarded with impressive views and good places to stop for refreshments.
Electric Riding Pleasure in the Bike Region
Now all that's missing are the tips for e-bikers. In principle, there is nothing to stop you riding the same routes as mountain bikers or road cyclists. However, as you can cover many more kilometres in the same time as a mountain biker, we can also recommend longer tours that take you to more distant alpine pastures. Our guests always rave about the E-Bike Gourmet Tour in particular. On this tour, you get to know the region's direct producers and can take one or two delicacies home with you. This tour falls into the "easy" category. Over approx. 33 km and a duration of two and a half hours, the climb amounts to around 330 metres in altitude. An absolute top recommendation is the E-Trail XXL Tour – moderate difficulty, 65 km, six hours, 3,000 metres in altitude. Suitable protective equipment is required (a helmet is a must anyway, but also knee and elbow pads).
By the way, at the Puradies you have the option of renting e-bikes via the iBike Box. And families on holiday with small children don't have to miss out on the e-bike experience either. We also rent out bike trailers.
Downhill, Freeride & Co. in the Bikepark Leogang
The last paragraph is dedicated to the adrenaline junkies, who can really let off steam in the nearby Bikepark Leogang. As one of the first and largest bike parks in Europe, it comprises nine different routes for downhill, freeride and much more. As "downhilling" is becoming increasingly popular and more and more people want to try biking on steep terrain, there is the "Riders Playground" for interested beginners. Similar to a children's ski course, you practise on safe terrain with a conveyor belt and step by step learn to work your way up to more challenging trails.
